Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS A LMFT?

A LMFT is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am licensed to practice in New York State.

WHAT IS EFT?

EFT is short for Emotionally Focused Therapy. EFT is a model developed by Dr. Susan Johnson to address the negative emotional cycle in couple relationships. For more information on EFT, check the ICEEFT website or the popular book, Hold Me Tight.

DO YOU ONLY WORK WITH COUPLES OR FAMILIES?

No, I work with individuals also. Marriage and Family Therapy is also known as Systems Therapy. This means I work with each client (whether individual, couple or family) based on the entire system and environment in which they’re in for a holistic and encompassing framework in treatment.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING OUR CONSULT CALL?

Our consultation call is an opportunity for us to determine whether we’d be a good fit for each other or not. I’ll ask you to share why you’re seeking support at this time, I’ll share a bit about myself and how I work and I’ll answer questions you might have. If you don’t feel that I’m the right fit for what you need at this time, I’m happy to provide you with referral information.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN OUR FIRST SESSION?

In our first session, you’ll get a feel for how I work and I’ll get a sense of you, your concerns and needs in addition to what your world is like outside of the therapy space. This is an opportunity to connect and build our working-relationship and to begin setting goals for our time together.

WE’RE COMING AS A COUPLE. is the initial session the same?

We’ll still be getting a sense of each other and your concerns but initial assessment for couples is a 4-session process. We will meet for a first session together to identify your reasons and goals for therapy. Then, we will each meet for a 1:1 session to gain an attachment/sex history and then for a fourth session for feedback. Depending on the goals identified, I will ask for additional 1:1 appointments during the intake process.

HOW OFTEN WILL WE MEET?

We will meet weekly for 50 minutes (individual sessions) or 60 minutes (couple or family sessions).

What’s your location and availability?

I have availability for sessions Tuesday-Friday during the weekday. Currently, I offer virtual appointments via a secure, HIPAA-compliant online platform. My physical office space is located in Midtown Manhattan but current sessions are remote due to Covid-19. Schedule a free 15-minute consult call with me to discuss available times.

do you take insurance?

I am no longer a participating provider and do not work with any other insurance carriers. However, if you have out-of-network benefits with your current policy, your plan may be able to provide a reimbursement for some of your investment. I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance if you have coverage.

what is your session fee?

Individual sessions are $200 for 50 minutes and couple/family sessions are $250 for 60 minutes.

what forms of payment do you accept?

For virtual sessions, I accept payments via Square which includes: credit cards, debit cards and flex spending cards (FSA/HRA). Cash and check are also accepted for in-person appointments.

DO YOU OFFER SLIDING SCALE?

Yes, I offer a no-questions-asked, sliding scale option, upon request. The number of sliding scale spots are limited.

As of 08/01/23, all of my sliding scale spots are currently full.

I HAVE A BUSY SCHEDULE AND CAN’T AFFORD YOUR WEEKLY FEE. CAN I MEET WITH YOU BI-WEEKLY INSTEAD?

As a new client, it is recommended that you attend weekly sessions in order to see the most progress in your treatment, especially when just beginning therapy. Meeting bi-weekly is typically offered to clients toward the end of their treatment as a way to consolidate their hard work and to say goodbyes. If finances are a concern, let’s chat.

HOW LONG WILL I BE IN THERAPY?

It depends. As a therapist with a client-centered approach, my clients determine their pace in therapy. Clients enter therapy in different phases of life and with differing skill sets. Therapy is a journey and deep, emotional work takes time to develop and evolve. When beginning therapy, I suggest taking the first 4 weeks to give yourself space to develop a therapeutic relationship and to feel movement. Therapy is work and takes effort. Ultimately, you will get out of the process, what you put into it.
